Mom put up the Christmas decorations today. Most years, I put up the tree and decorate it and that's it, though we have a lot more decorations than that. This year was an exception. I put up the tree. That's it.
I've been playing a lot of Dragon Age Origins, but haven't uploaded any of my achievements. I'm enjoying it so far, though it's a little disquieting to have played it for 20+ hours and only be 60% through. I think this game may be a little too big, and I won't get to do everything. Plus it's a little hard to find one's way through some of the levels, but s'all good.

My dad will be arriving for Thanksgiving sometime today, so we've been cleaning house. That is, mom really cleaned the house and I just vacuumed. I have much lower standards about house cleanliness. :|
I received copies of Dragon Age: Origins today, but don't expect to play it til Friday as dad wouldn't approve. I'm not so worried about the fact that he wouldn't approve as the fact that he would TELL me he didn't approve. *shrug* At any rate, yes, I did get two copies and one is for Dean, but I'm not sure when I'll send it. Mom has vacation next week and will be making cookies to send to Elizabeth and Dean's family, so whenever she sends those I'll send DAO also.

Amazon.com can be annoying. :| I made sure when I ordered Dragon Age Origins last night that I had only ordered one copy, because it has sometimes in the past told me that I'd ordered two. This morning I get on and check the confirmation email and it says I DID order two copies. Now it won't let me change the order, or cancel it.. Hopefully I will be able to change it eventually before they ship two copies, but if not I can give the other copy to Dean. I wish I knew why that happened, though.

So far, my reaction to Modern Warfare 2 is "Eh". A lot of people are getting it for the multiplayer, which I haven't tried due to the fact that it seems none of my friends have played it yet. So far, I've actually enjoyed the somewhat stealthy missions, which is a switch for anyone who knows what games I normally like. As one gets into the real combat missions, my allies die quickly and I don't know where to go.. and I'm being shot at from three sides. I'm sure this chaos is fairly realistic, but sometimes I can't handle it. If my allies lived a bit longer, it'd be great because they give you some indication if an area is clear.. like sometimes they don't move on unless there are no more enemies. But when they die, I end up with enemies flanking around behind and I die too. :| Oh well. I'm really playing this because 1) I played the first and 2) for the achievements. Since I've already gotten five achievements, I'd say it's worth the chaos.
Oh, and I liked the CSI episodes I watched today.

I checked the mail twice today before I realized that America honors it's veterans by not giving them their mail on November 11th. Phooey. Makes me feel a little dumb, but I did see a few of my neighbors check their mail as well, so at least I wasn't the only dumb one. Yay. I was expecting a CSI:NY from Netflix and Modern Warfare 2 from Gamefly. Oh well, something to look forward to tomorrow.

*shudder* I have just finished with this years Halloween. We got one hundred seventy-five trick-or-treaters. This year, like most years, I gave out all the candy because mom hates Halloween. I do too, but I have a higher tolerance for it I guess. We actually had candy for maybe five more people, but the last group was seven, so I didn't want to risk not having enough. Lights out in the house, and we're pretending not to be here. What annoyed me most this year was people saying they were also getting candy for another person as well and having a second bag. I suspect most of these were being honest, but one really has no way of knowing if they are just being greedy. I didn't refuse candy to anyone, though. There are still lots of people running around outside.

They are currently predicting rain for Halloween. I hope that's right. Of course, it might not rain during the specific hours that Trick or Treating would be going on, in which case the rain wouldn't matter. Halloween is my mom's least favorite holiday.. it's probably my least favorite also. We could just turn off all the lights, but who wants to do that for three to four hours? Plus I worry about those teenagers who might vandalize or something. It's easier just to give out candy, I suppose. By the way, my cat really hates it too, because of all the loud people, and doorbells ringing, and she can't settle down, but she also can't really hide from it. Oh, and maybe we should watch CSI earlier in the day too, because that's usually the time we'd be watching it. Phooey. These social holidays really cause a myriad of annoyances, don't they?

So I read the new Dan Brown book, The Lost Symbol. Reading Dan Brown books is interesting, even though I usually don't support the conclusions he comes up with.. he uses a lot of factual historical stuff and then uses it to support whatever it is he wanted to write about. What he says often treads on the toes of established Christian religions, but that's OK by me. After all, I don't think Jesus did get married and have a child, but I don't see why it would be so impossible or sinful if He did. But the conclusion of Lost Symbol I really don't agree with is that man can become divine, or a god, through enlightening his mind. First off, I was always taught there is only one God (and Him crucified), and though we are made in the image of God, He is the source, and we were never intended to be equals. Even if it were true that we could become gods, that's a scary thought because since we have a sinful nature, most of us would become evil gods and chaos would continue to reign. About the only good point in the book was that the Bible contains the "Ancient Mysteries" which Masons and others are always trying to find. Interesting book, and worth reading (as the rest of Brown's books are), but don't support the conclusions.

Wow, I haven't posted this month, and there's not a whole lot of it left.
Hm, what have I been doing recently.. well, I reread the entire Narnia series. As each book is not really that long, I actually managed to read one and a half of them one of those days. Now I'm kind of stuck on what to read next. It's a bit early to start in on Lord of the Rings, for instance. Hm.
Mom bought me a new video game last weekend (not this past weekend, the week before) and I've been playing it a lot. It's Halo ODST, and it sort of makes me wish Noogy wasn't nocturnal, because otherwise we could play it together. Oh well. I know that if I went to see them, we could play it a bit, but actually not as much as I would like because now that he has kids, that's not the type of game we'd want to play while they watched. I mean, to me, it's fairly harmless and not nearly as bad as say.. Gears of War, in terms of blood and violence, but it still is pretty violent. Makes me glad I don't have to worry about that here.
Hm, what else.. been watching Crime Scene Investigators: Miami. We just finished season 3, and it's pretty good. Not quite as good as the original CSI, but still entertaining and educating, if only we could remember all the things we learned. ;D This weekend we'll start on season 4. Hurray.

Within the last nine or so days, I've finished reading five books. I'm rereading the Left behind series (it's been a long time). I can't honestly say I'm getting anything spiritual out of it, though.. I'm reading it and enjoying it just as fiction. It's difficult for me to say whether I'm a Christian or not, because I actually do believe that God exists, has a son who came to Earth and died for our sins, but I don't have what Christians call "a relationship" with Jesus, and I actually resent God for a lot of small petty reasons. So I think that I believe all that due to being raised that way, and that maybe knowing it's true makes no difference to me spiritually. But I'm fine with that. I attended a Christian High school for five years (not in a row), but I was never entirely comfortable with it all. I wasn't outright disrespectful, as some of my classmates were, but always felt it was a bit silly or pointless. Despite the fact that I believed, I rarely saw any tangible results, in my own life or anyone I knew, where God actually blessed that person more than psychologically. Sure, people didn't die in car accidents or whatever, but there's always a human reason for these things. If we actually get into a Tribulation, then I assume I'll still be around and God'll start doing tangible things, and maybe I'd believe in Him spiritually then. I know those verses in the Bible about "Blessed are those who do not see and still believe", but that's not the kind of person I am. I shouldn't want to live through the Tribulation, and actually I don't want to, but I can't just give control to God. I don't love my sins, but I do love my control and don't like the Christian lifestyle. So I'll just keep on keeping on.

It frosted last night. I wonder what this bodes for Autumn and Winter, given that it's frosting BEFORE autumn even starts.

I thought maybe Mom's entire vacation would pass without any rain here in Arlington, but we finally got a little this evening. More, please.
I noticed while washing the dishes that my back ached more than usual. It then occurred to me how low the sinks are in our house. I'm above average height, but I rarely notice how low sinks are. Sheesh. Makes you wonder how low sinks must be in countries where the average height is lower than ours (like most of Asia). Hm.
current mood: contemplative

I just managed to break a vase/candle holder. Oops. I'm guessing it wasn't very stable to begin with, because I just barely nudged it. Thankfully it wasn't the blue vase that mom likes so much. I would have felt horrendous if I'd done that. And mom's not even here for me to apologize about it. Wah.

The repairman came again today. Or rather, a different repairman working for the same company. He replaced the leaky hose in the washer and was gone again all in ten minutes. Yay, we have a working washer again. I'm actually having to resist a compulsion to go watch the load I'm washing now to make sure it doesn't still leak. *shrug* The repairman seemed capable and trustworthy, I just always assume the worst (ie. that the problem wasn't fixed that simply).
Mom is flying out to Colorado tomorrow, so she's spending the day doing little things to get ready. At the moment she's out shopping. No idea what I'll do while she's gone, but I never plan my days ahead of time anyway.

I didn't mention in my last post that our washer was leaking. Mom called a repair company, and they sent out a person today. They said they'd be by between 1:30 Pm and 3:30, but actually didn't show up til 4:40. The problem is simple: a leaky hose. This is apparently a very common problem, and the part needs to be ordered. Due to this weekend being Labor Day, the part won't be in until Wednesday, most likely. Buh.

Happy ninth anniversary tomorrow, Elizabeth and Dean. Wow.. and many more to come.
I downloaded the Shadow Complex demo today. Whoa, it was big.. and took a long time to download. My main problems with playing demos is that I don't get achievements, and if I don't get achievements I don't feel I'm making progress in a game. :| Probably part of why I never play PS2 games anymore.

I'm disappointed with this new Mass Effect Download. The first DLC for Mass Effect was OK, in that it had a proper story and was fun, but this second one doesn't have a proper story and actually gets boring quickly. After all the time I waited for it and anticipated it, I had hoped it would be better. Phooey. At least it was only $5.
Today I went to the dentist for my fillings, of which I was supposed to get three. I actually only got two, because the dentist decided I only needed two. I'm not complaining. They cost a lot.. something like $215 per filling. My jaw was numbed, and the process of putting in the fillings wasn't too unpleasant, but the numbing didn't wear off until nearly 2 PM (I went in at 9 AM, and was numbed at 9:18). Kind of an odd feeling. Anyway, now I don't have to go back to the dentist again until February of next year. Yay!

I was tired of summer before we really even got into the hottest part of it, and now I'm really wishing it were fall. It doesn't even really get that hot here compared to California or South Carolina, but when it gets over 80 F, I don't like it. One of the reasons, or probably the main reason, is that it makes me feel slightly sick. Now, most days I feel minorly sick anyway, and the heat just compounds it. Bah. Rain, please.
I had a dentist appointment set up for Friday to get three fillings, but the dentist receptionist called today to say that they actually aren't going to be working Friday afternoon, so they rescheduled my appointment for Tuesday. I'm pretty sure mom isn't going to have that day off, so I guess we'll be rescheduling it again. And also the sleep doctor called to see if mom can have her appointment this Friday, but she already has an appointment with her regular doctor, so.. I dunno. What is it with Fridays? Either people want things to happen and they can't, or they don't and we do.
